Come Think Like a Citizen Scientist
Lab rotation Scouts will learn the difference between an insect and an arachnid. They will hold and inspect various varieties of both. At end of lab, the scouts will make their own spider from clothes pins, chenille stems and googly eyes and takes these home with them. My Big Backyard Gallery rotation Scouts will have the opportunity to match the life cycle of various insects and explore other interactive exhibits of the gallery. (Daisies: Journey Part 1, 2 & 3 Brownies: Journey Part 1, 2 & 3 and Step 4 Bug Badge)
Fossil Dig Scouts will use their observation skills to look for fossils of once living things. They will also learn some key aspects of being a Paleontologist. Scouts will need to find and identify fossils using their observation and comparison skills. The scouts will be able to take home (3) real fossils. (Daisies: Journey Part 1 Brownies: Journey Part 1 )
Tree/Store rotation Scouts will go into the Big Tree within My Big Backyard gallery and learn all about the life of a honey bee including the roles of the Queen, worker and drone bees. They will finish in the museum store where they can purchase items from their visit as well as additional Tellus badges. (Daisies: Journey Part 3 Brownies: Journey Part 1 and Step 4 Bug Badge)
