DESCRIPTION:Join us for our second meeting of the Volunteer Book Club, a space to connect, reflect, and explore ideas that can inspire us both personally and as leaders. \n \n \n \n \n \n This Month’s Selection: The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times by Douglas Abrams and Jane Goodall \n \n \n Who/Why: Calling bookworms of all ages! Let’s connect, chat, play, and celebrate books! To recognize November as National Family Literacy Month, GSGATL has paired with Junior League of Atlanta to offer a family-friendly book club event. We invite adult readers to join us in discussion of the power of hope as something we enact, not just feel. Families are welcome and encouraged to join! While the adults are in conversation, Junior League volunteers will lead interactive literacy-focused activities for kids. Looking for a book with similar themes that your child could read alongside you? Check out our age-stratified suggestions! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Girl Scout Level \n \n \n \n Grade Levels \n \n \n \n Suggested Reading \n \n \n \n Thematic Connection \n \n \n \n \n \n Daisy \n \n \n \n K-1 \n \n \n \n The Most Magnificent Thing \n \n \n by Ashley Spires \n \n \n \n Hope can be something we give and receive. \n \n \n \n \n \n Brownie \n \n \n \n 2-3 \n \n \n \n The One and Only Ivan \n \n \n by Katherine Applegate \n \n \n \n Hope helps us keep trying, caring, and believing in change. \n \n \n \n \n \n Junior \n \n \n \n 4-5 \n \n \n \n The Wild Robot \n \n \n by Peter Brown \n \n \n \n Hope can inspire curiosity, resilience, and problem-solving. \n \n \n \n \n \n Cadette \n \n \n \n 6-8 \n \n \n \n The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind \n \n \n by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer \n \n \n \n Hope grows through community, perseverance, and purposeful action. \n \n \n \n \n \n Senior \n \n \n \n 9-10 \n \n \n \n The Alchemist \n \n \n by Paulo Coelho \n \n \n \n Hope can help us discover meaning, pursue our goals, and imagine possibilities. \n \n \n \n \n \n Ambassador \n \n \n \n 11-12 \n \n \n \n The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History \n \n \n by Elizabeth Kolbert \n \n \n \n Hope can shape how we understand responsibility, humanity, and our role in an uncertain world. \n \n \n \n \n \n Adult \n \n \n \n NA \n \n \n \n The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times \n \n \n by Douglas Abrams and Jane Goodall \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hope can become a practice, grounded in perspective, resilience, connection, and the choice to take meaningful action even in uncertain times. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Fun Fact: Ivan, the western lowland gorilla who inspired our suggested reading for Brownies, spent his final years at Zoo Atlanta!
